Kambô

What is Kambô?

Kambô is a secretion collected from the Amazonian tree frog, Phyllomedusa Bicolor, found in the Amazonian jungles of South America. It’s also known as Sapo, Kampu or ‘vaccina da floresta’ (vaccine of the forest). It detoxifies the body and offers a natural way to empower and boost your immune system; it has powerful and potent anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-viral properties. It’s one of the strongest natural antibiotics and anesthetics found naturally in the world. At a mental level, the mind becomes more focused and still, with increased resistance to stress. Everything feels calmer and becomes easier to manage, you feel lighter and more grounded.

What happens in a Kambô ceremony?

Small points, gates,  will be burned with a hot stick onto the skin, to open the epidermis. The Kambô is mixed with a little water and made into small points to be places on the gates. The amount of points varies for each individual and I will decide the right amount of points for your treatment on the day. 

Kambô, once applied, will then travel straights into and through the lymphatic system scanning the body for areas to do its work. You may experience throbbing or burning sensations in the places where the medicine is working on them.

Blood pressure will rise and then fall, at which point nausea is experienced and the desire to purge will occur. As blood pressure slowly falls, many will feel dizzy, weak, foggy, shaky, and may even briefly faint. The discomfort present is the accumulation of toxins (physical, energetic and emotional) in your body wanting to exit. Purging can take a number of forms including vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, crying, and shaking. The purging can cleanse on a physical, eneregetic and emotional level. It can help to work with an intention as this can help with focus during the treatment.

After purging, nausea will subside and the medicine is taken off of the gates. Within a short time (usually 20-40 minutes) you will feel much better and will desire to eat and drink.

Directly afterward many feel an increase of energy, stamina, clarity, and wellbeing, for some, it may take a few days of feeling a bit more tired and weak, but mostly within a day, depending on your state of health, you will begin to feel the real lasting benefits of your Kambô treatment.

After the points of Kambô are removed, the points are dressed with a Peruvian tree sap  ‘Sangre de Grado’ (Dragon’s Blood). This helps them to heal faster and ensures they stay free from infection.

The burn marks will heal and fade with time, but depending on your skin color and type you may have small visible scars. Most people see their Kambô marks as a badge of honor to be worn proudly. The same burn points can be reused after 2-3 months.

Kambô is not psychoactive and nor produces hallucinations, but can bring a short altered state of reality in some people and many people receive insights and messages about living a healthier life.
